Biography of Academic Ukrainian Theater of Drama and Musical Comedy in Nikolaev, Ukraine began on November 1, 1927 with the establishment of the Theater for Young Audience.

Theater's Godfathers, curators and educators were people's artists of the Soviet Union: Moscow Small Theater's legend Alexandra Yablochkina, famous actor of Moscow Art Thester Nikolay Plotnikov, student of outstanding Ukrainian personality Les Kurbas Sofia Manuylovych, brothers Robert and Raphael Adelheym.

In August 1959 troupes of Nikolaev State Youth Theater and transportable Ukrainian Theater behalf of T.G. Shevchenko have been merged in one collective - Nikolaev Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater.

Nikolaev Art Theater of Russian Drama originally appeared in 1898. The creative team was founded in 1922 in Lugansk by prominent Russian actor and director G. Svobodin. During 12 years the troupe had the status of the mobile theater, and in 1934 - 1935 theater becomes stationary and is located in Nikolaev.
