Near the beach on the Kinburn spit
(Nikolaev Ukraine) the underwater archaeologists discovered an ancient sunken ship, that was carrying goods for sale in amphorae. Two amphorae were distracted from under the water. The finds were made in the Greek islands of Chios and Thasos in about the 5th century BC.
The find confirms the trade relations between Greece and its colonies in the northern Black Sea region in the 5th century BC. Objects are placed under the state control.
As the teacher of the University of Sukhomlinsky Aleksandr Smirnov tells, amphorae were intended for the transportation of two major products to our region - wine and olive oil.
The underwater work was conducted as a part of an archaeological expedition Coast of the gods, the aim of which is to find settlements in the bottom of the Black Sea.
